Day 8
Extreme Living—A Prayer to Love

Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
—1 Corinthians 13:4–7 (NRSV)

Love
You are so many things:
You are patient and kind.
You are not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude.
You do not insist on your own way.
You are not irritable or resentful.
You do not rejoice in wrongdoing, but in the truth.
You bear all things, believe all things, hope all things, and endure all things.
Love
You are Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer.
You call us into relationship with you.
And you fought for us,
Through Canaan, Egypt, and all the years of exile,
Through Bethlehem, Golgotha and Antioch.

Love
You are relentless,
And you call us to be relentless.

Love
You are Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer.
You call us into relationship with all you created.
We want to fight for the things that matter to you,
To choose to engage our brothers and sisters in relationships,
To choose peace instead of war,
To do justice, love kindness and walk humbly,
To choose to sit in uncomfortable spaces of disagreement,
To be the voice for the aliens, orphans and widows,
To not simply walk away.

Love
You are Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer.
You call us to love you
And to love all you created.
And we pray we do that well.
Amen.
